VILLA Announces Acquisition of Dallas-Based DK Foot & Casual

Deal Marks VILLA’s Move into the Southern U.S. Market; Creates Blueprint for Urban Retail Consolidation

PHILADELPHIA--()--The preeminent urban lifestyle retailer VILLA today announced its acquisition of Dallas, Texas based retail chain DK Foot & Casual. The deal adds 12 stores to the VILLA umbrella and marks the Philadelphia-based company’s move into the South.

Not only does this acquisition give VILLA a foothold in the robust Texas market, where the company expects to open 10-15 VILLA locations next year, but it places the retailer at the epicenter of the fast-moving consolidation pattern that is impacting urban retail.

In a tumultuous economic environment that has seen numerous businesses closing their doors over the past few years, VILLA has not only thrived, but has significantly increased its store reach. By the end of 2014, VILLA will have 117 store locations and a rapidly growing e-commerce business—up from 35 locations in 2012.

The key to VILLA’s success is its deep connection with urban youth, which is the result of two essential ingredients. First, VILLA has a reputation for offering a curated assortment of on-trend, limited urban lifestyle fashion - including exclusive collaborations with various brands including Nike, Adidas, Reebok and Timberland. Second, VILLA is committed to leading a movement to elevate the way business is done in urban America. VILLA stores are primarily located in underserved and under-resourced neighborhoods with economic and social challenges, and VILLA recognizes the need to be part of the solution.

“Since my parents opened the first VILLA 25 years ago in Reading, PA, we have focused on building lasting community relationships by hiring from the neighborhoods that surround our stores; partnering with local community organizations; and investing in our stores to provide an elevated retail experience for our customers,” says VILLA CEO Jason Lutz. “We found a partner in DK that shares our vision in serving the community and we are excited to build on the relationships it has cultivated over the last 22 years.”

In 1989, VILLA opened its first store location in the Reading, PA area. The company has since grown into the nation’s preeminent urban lifestyle fashion retailer, with 97 locations in PA, NJ, DE, IL, MI, NY, OH, TX and WI. VILLA uniquely offers the best of fashion in an exciting, technologically forward environment. Stores are primarily located in underserved and under-resourced neighborhoods with economic and social challenges. Recognizing the need to be part of these communities’ solution, VILLA created Join The Movement (JTM). VILLA is more than the average retail company, its mission is to change the way business is done in urban communities by developing, supporting, and delivering opportunities that empower urban youth to accomplish their BIG Dreams. This is the VILLA Movement.
